About HBL

HBL is an ERISA and Benefits law firm specializing in Affordable Care Act (ACA), executive compensation, health and welfare benefits and retirement plan legal compliance. We counsel a variety of clients, including small to mid-sized businesses, 401(k) investment advisors, health insurance brokers, accountants, attorneys and HR consultants, to name a few. HBL is passionate about advising clients and we are dedicated to our mission: to provide comprehensive, personalized and practical ERISA and Benefits legal solutions that exceed client expectations.

HBL adheres to the values of:

At HBL, we collaborate with clients to provide fair and trustworthy guidance. Our clients repeatedly engage HBL for legal services because they know they can depend on our solid advice to solve complex ERISA and Benefits issues.

HBL understands that our clients’ ERISA and benefits issues demand a sense of urgency. Client communications and responsiveness are top priorities for HBL, so we strive to respond to client calls and emails within twenty-four hours of receipt during normal business hours.

Risk Mitigation

At HBL, we work closely with our clients to help them anticipate and avoid costly employee benefits compliance issues. We regularly attend seminars to stay on top of recent developments and trends in employee benefits law, allowing us to implement a preventive approach to DOL and IRS compliance errors.

With respect to ERISA and Benefits legal compliance, HBL typically discusses with the client the general legal issues involved along with the risks and costs associated with different scenarios. At HBL, we understand that legal compliance and cost go hand in hand. After an initial discussion, we typically document for clients the letter of the law governing an issue. We then outline the client’s particular facts and circumstances along with the actions taken by the company to comply with the letter of the law. The primary goal is to place the client in a defensible position in the event of an IRS or DOL audit.
